Life in Bluche

Located five minutes away by car from the heart of Crans-Montana, one of Switzerland’s most renowned ski and summer resorts, Bluche sits just below at 1,274 meters above sea level. With one small hotel, one restaurant, a hairdresser and a post office, the school is by far the biggest enterprise in the village.

At Les Roches, you can participate in a variety of sporting and social events. Our sports director organizes a range of sporting activities and can advise students on the best mountain trails, ski hire, golf and much more. The school is also within a short traveling distance of France, Italy, Austria and Germany, providing an array of weekend destinations. The renowned Swiss railway network links into Geneva Airport, placing most of Europe within easy reach.

Housing

Undergraduate students are accommodated in a number of small apartment buildings all within a short walk of the academic facility and have no need for their own transport. All rooms have ample hanging and storage space, comfortable beds and a place to study. Communal areas where students gather to work on projects, or just to relax, are scattered around the villages.

At an extra charge, Graduate students can be accommodated in the superbly appointed Peter's Farm buildings, opened in January 2002.

Dining

When it comes to food, the student body not only provides most of the production but also the consumption. With some of the biggest and best-equipped kitchens in the country, students at Les Roches will have no fear of going hungry. Students receive full board at the school throughout their study.

Our four dining options are the foyer bar, the informal Café du Village, the salle à manger (main dining room), and our à la carte restaurant. At no charge, you can reserve candlelit dinners in the a la carte restaurant that will be prepared and served by fellow students. All meals are included in course fees.

Kitchen Facilities

The kitchens at Les Roches are enough to make even a 5 star hotel chef jealous. As a student, you will work with the best equipment and foodstuffs you would expect to find in a top hotel or restaurant. Supervised by industry professionals, you will get involved from your very first day in the kitchen. You'll be introduced to all the major food groups, from breads to soups, to meat and poultry, to the delicious desserts and confections for which Europe is famous.

Classroom and Learning Facilities

The Media & Learning Resources Centre on campus is a facility where faculty and students can research, learn, study, relax and solve problems. The Centre offers a variety of resources, including over 10,000 books, professional journals, and over 7,000 online and full-text materials. It is staffed with experts who can assist you with locating research materials, using online search engines, or keeping notebook computers in good working condition. State-of-the art equipment, including computer projectors, color printing, scanning or copying, audio visual devices and digital cameras are available to assist graduate students in making presentations. Hundreds of Internet connections are available throughout the campus in addition to a network covering students' living quarters.

Sporting events, like golf and swimming in the summer and skiing and tobogganing in the winter, keep students busy throughout the year.

Chalets and small apartment buildings accommodate our undergraduate students, and are all within a short walk of the academic facility. Communal areas where students gather to work on projects or just relax are scattered around the villages.

Italy and France are only an hour away by car and students can travel to Milan by train in about an hour and a half.
