Life in Switzerland
Campus Location
Our campus is nestled in the lovely Alpine Village of Bluche, in wine-producing Canton Valais, only minutes away from the international summer and winter resort of Crans-Montana. The area has a congenial climate and pristine air, long recommended by medical professionals for their contribution to good health. With one small hotel, one restaurant, a hairdresser and a post office, the Les Roches campus is by far the biggest enterprise in the village. Students or parents concerned with safety can rest assured knowing that Bluche is a peaceful, residential and virtually crime-free village.
Swiss Culture
Renowned for spectacular mountains, excellent cuisine and a tradition for fine hospitality, Switzerland is an ideal place for students to study. Home of the first national Hotel Association and hotel school, Switzerland has long been at the forefront of education and professionalism in the hospitality industry. Located in the heart of Europe, Switzerland melds together three of the continents leading cultures - German, French and Italian. Students from all over the world who have studied in Switzerland comment on the extensive and efficient public transportation system, the cleanliness of the streets, and of course the world-renowned focus on hospitality.
Getting Around
A car is not necessary for students traveling to Les Roches to study. Switzerland has a fantastic public transportation system, and the walk between classes is short and easy. Busses and a funicular railway service connect Bluche with the resort of Crans Montana above and the main line railway station in the town of Sierre below.
Free Time
Crans Montana is one of Switzerland's most famous ski resorts, occupying what is said to be the sunniest plateau in the Alps. The resort has the advantage of year- round skiing, so students enjoy visiting there virtually any time of year. Further information on Crans Montana can be found at www.crans-montana.ch Italy and France are about an hour away by car and students can travel by train to Milan in a little over an hour and a half. With two modern international airports in Geneva and Zurich, London, Barcelona and Amsterdam are also popular weekend destinations.
