Intensive Language Instruction

Programme Facts
  • Programme length: 21 weeks
  • An intensive preparatory course designed to help you improve your English skills
  • Open to anyone who plans to enroll in a Les Roches programme or has experience in the hospitality industry
  • Students who do not meet the minimum English proficiency requirement may begin their time at Les Roches with this course


Programme Overview

The course will provide you with relevant skills in English Language, Comprehension, Listening and Speaking in preparation for entry into the Diploma/Post-graduate Diploma programmes exclusively. An introductory computer course will be given to familiarize you with necessary computer operations and skills. You will also be given French lessons to make you feel more comfortable in Bluche and the surrounding French speaking area.

Academics

The Intensive Language Instruction and Preparatory Course is a 21-week programme designed to prepare you for your studies in the hospitality industry. The course includes the following:

  • A minimum of 5 periods of English instruction per day, to include general language development, technical English for hotel management and project work.
  • A minimum of 2 periods per week of French* to familiarise you with Switzerland and to assist adaptation to the environment of international hospitality.
  • An introductory course to computers to teach you basic computer skills and operations.
  • Tutorial classes to help you on an individual one to one approach.
  • Field Trips
* French is taken as a compulsory subject in L1 classes. For students in classes L2 and L3, French is an optional subject, as it is felt that focus should be on English Language studies.

Admission Requirements

  • The course is specially designed for students who do not have adequate written and oral fluency in the English language to meet the conditions of entry onto the regular programmes at Les Roches. The goal of the course is to assist and prepare you for your studies in the hospitality industry.
  • Minimum Language Requirement: Conversational English
Programme Start Dates

The programme is comprised of two semesters, one mid-semester weeklong break, one reading or study week at the end of classes, and one week of final examinations.
